Cornelius Norbertus Gijsbrechts, “Trompe l’oeil Board Partition with Letter Rack and Music Book”

Image

This work is from 1668, by the Flemish artist Cornelius Norbertus Gijsbretchs, say that name three times fast. It is of a pin board for letters and other materials. This was a popular item for displaying personal items at the time. The painting is in the form of Trompe l’oeil, that is “to fool the eye.” This is the vein in which we will take our next painting on the 16″X20″ canvas. For a homework grade, please find an example of this type of painting from any time period and post an image or a link to an image/artist to this blog.  You must also explain along with the artist’s name, the image’s place of origin, time period, and medium. This will be due by Oct. 9th, for credit.
